Join us for an unbelievable journey of discovery to the margins of consciousness. Outsider Art is a problematic umbrella term for artists "outside" of art conventions and social norms. Recognizing the creativity of people at the extreme margins of society expands our understanding of expression and of consciousness and the diversity of human experience. In this workshop focused on Women Outsiders, we'll meet an artist with Down's syndrome, an institutionalized artist in an imaginary marriage with a duke, and a brilliant painter who lives in constant terror of being obliterated by polka dots. We will look at the origins of the outsider art movement, then focus on the lives and work of women outsider artists. We will use some works for creative writing exercises, with plenty to take home for further inspiration. Andy Warhol is everywhere, but remains an enigma. How did the shy, plain boy from the underclass of Pittsburgh become the biggest sensation in art history?
In this session, we will explore the life, work, and legend of Andy Warhol, looking at a variety of familiar and less viewed artworks alike. We will use Andy's story and artworks as a springboard for our own creative writing with several generative exercises for poetry or fiction ideas and drafts
