to be that Witches on brooms skimming the road where the entreating woman in the polka dot dress looks up and waves–an acknowledgement of her liberated sisters flying above the Earth while she is limited to the grounded, where her dusty brown boots can touch the dirt. As nature watches–the small cow, scattered water fowl, and deeply bent rooted tree– she can only arch her heart up to the liberated sister witch who returns her gesture of greeting, acknowledging her desperate desire. Though earthbound, she longs to be that free. Annette Petrusso Annette Petrusso is a poet and writer/editor based in Austin, Texas.
