Wine and Tarot Night Next Week: Join Us!

Please join us at The Ekphrastic Review next week on Zoom for an evening of wine, art, and writing with Tarot inspirations! Did you know that the tarot was originally a card game? It came into use as an esoteric tool along the way and today is popularly used as a therapeutic tool because of the variety of symbols and archetypes. We will use it as a tool for creativity, doing some fun and meaningful exercises in a generative writing session. Come and write with us. Bring your own Merlot, or a pot of tea as we get cozy and banish the winter blues in community and creativity.

Tarot Inspirations: a wine and art write night

Join us for a relaxed evening of writing exercises using Tarot-themed prompts for inspiration. The Tarot has a long and rich history, first as a game, then as a treasure trove of world symbolism and mythology. In recent years, it is used as a therapeutic tool. It is fascinating as a part of art history.

We will do a series of creative writing exercises taking inspiration from the symbols and stories of the Tarot. You do not need to be familiar with the Tarot to participate. But if you do have a deck, bring it with you.

Bring your favourite Shiraz or Chardonnay, or a pot of tea, and settle in for a cozy winter night relaxing and getting creative with other writers.

A wine and art write night!

The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was a society of artists who famously painted gorgeous redheaded maidens in lush gardens, reenacting myths and poetry. They influenced countless painters with their aesthetic and poetic concerns about beauty, art, and magic.

Join us for an evening of discovery as we explore and discuss the Pre-Raphaelite movement and its intriguing images. After looking at the history of the artists, ideas, and muses of this group, we will spend the second hour on two or more generative creative writing exercises. All kinds of writers are welcome- fiction, poetry, and more.

This is a wine and art write night. Feel free to bring your favourite Shiraz or a pot of tea as we relax together and continue our journey into art and writing.

Leonora Carrington's astonishing life story and her brilliant imagination fuelled one of the most interesting bodies of creative work we've ever known. As a young woman, she ran away from a comfortable life in England, then from a traumatic time in an institution for mental illness, ending up in Mexico. For 75 years, she created surreal stories, fantastical paintings, and eerie and beautiful sculptures.

We will look at Leonora's life experiences and creative works. In the second hour, we will use her visual art as prompts for generating our own poems or stories. All writers are welcome, fiction, poetry, and more.
