Night in My Veins: reading and writing dark prose poetry
On Zoom. Sunday. Oct. 20. 2024. 12 to 2 pm est.
This is a prose poetry workshop, where we will read and discuss some stunning examples of darker prose poetry, and use dark themes to write our own. We will use artworks and verbal prompts to help us find our way into the dark.
Since death, grief, sorrow, terror, nightmares, illness, spirits, war, loss, trauma, abuse, oppression, assault and other darknesses are part of the human experience, artists of all kinds have always addressed these and more as themes. It can help the artist or viewer to process the darker experiences, or act as witness, or simply acknowledge their reality.
This is a prose poetry workshop with prose poets in mind. While we won't go into too much background on prose poetry and its history in this workshop, in order to make more space to write, all kinds of writers are welcome.
Trigger warning: in this entire workshop, we may speak frankly and openly about fear, trauma, vampires, sexuality, death, grief and other dark themes.
