Best of the Net nominations from The Ekphrastic Review
I’m learning as I go and doing my best to promote the journal to get the widest readership for your poems. To show my deep respect for our writers, I want to nominate works for every prize I am able to. So, Best of the Net literary nominations for the period of July 2015 through June 30, 2016 are up. Despite thinking this was a great idea, I actually have found it excruciating and I have agonized for hours on end. This is a terrible task. Since it's my first time nominating writers as editor of a journal, I kept worrying whether I was doing it correctly or if I'd make an embarrassing mistake and disqualify everyone. Worse, there are so many incredible writers and so many amazing poems that trying to choose six for the Ekphrastic nomination was just plain hell. Nominations from each journal can include six poems and one short story and one essay. I am only nominating for six poems. We have had relatively few fiction or essay works and I didn’t think it was fair to choose. I hope we publish a wide selection in the coming year and that I can nominate in these categories next summer. I am sorry to everyone we’ve published that was not nominated! I am simply overwhelmed by the talent I get to share and I hope you will all join me in congratulating this year’s nominees. Ruth Bavetta, for “Memories Suspended by Filaments” Magdelyn Hammond Helwig, for "Artemesia Gentileschi Painting Judith" Veronica Lupinacci, for “Portrait of a Little Girl, Painted by Elizabeth Chant” Robert Thiessen, for “Bathsheba” Jenna Le, for “Villanelle for Louise Bourgeois” Alarie Tennille, for “Surrounded by Monet’s Water Lilies” (Click on name and title for link.)
