It is our absolute pleasure here at The Ekphrastic Review to nominate writers for the annual Best Small Fictions anthology. Now part of Alternating Currents Press, "Best Small Fictions is the first-ever contemporary anthology solely dedicated to anthologizing the best internationally published short hybrid fiction in a given calendar year. Now in its ninth year of existence, Best Small Fictions features the best microfiction, flash fiction, haibun stories, and prose poetry from around the world." The series was founded by Tara L. Masih and is now continued by series editor Nathan Leslie, since 2019. The Ekphrastic Review has evolved naturally as a poetry-heavy journal. We love poetry. Indeed, it is the editor's conviction that poetry is one of the most important things in the world. But as some of you know, said editor also adores the short prose forms: flash fiction, microfiction, prose poetry, and so on. Ekphrasis is rich fuel for these forms as much as it is for poetry. Congratulations to this year's five nominees, a varied selection in both voice and artwork choice. We are thrilled to have an exciting array of talents in this journal. Thank you, to our writers and to our readers, for making this community so incredible. I hope each one of you will read these small fictions and pass them around to your friends. Please join me in congratulating our nominees, in alphabetic order. ** Best Small Fictions 2024 Last Field, by Clive Donovan https://www.ekphrastic.net/the-ekphrastic-review/haibun-last-field-by-clive-donovan December 16, 2023 ** Cancerous Sneak, by Helen Freeman https://www.ekphrastic.net/the-ekphrastic-review/cancerous-sneak-by-helen-freeman November 29. 2023 ** Bison Paddock, By Eliot Li https://www.ekphrastic.net/the-ekphrastic-review/bison-paddock-by-eliot-li January 26, 2023 ** Letter To My Brother, Antonio, Before My Certain Passing, by Debbie Walker-Lass https://www.ekphrastic.net/the-ekphrastic-challenges/juan-luna-ekphrastic-writing-responses September 22, 2023 ** she was given many names, by Emily Tee https://www.ekphrastic.net/the-ekphrastic-challenges/ekphrastic-writing-responses-charles-aa-dellschau Dec 15 2023
