The City and I
At the end of the surviving bides a moment
of something different. I fall in love again
with the sliver of sky that unfurls behind my window,
and I see how the city is fragmented
between the skyscrapers and the billboards
and the stale air. Light and shadow
cleave my notebook in two.
On the street, three disparate figures
fall still as if listening for something.
